Teammates Mentoring of Spearfish is a program where adult members of the community meet 1 to 1 with a student between grades 3 and 12 once per week (from 30-60 minutes) at the school during the school day. By showing up consistently and focusing on all the great things our students have to offer we instill hope, and hope is a powerful thing. With hope comes greater confidence, better attendance, better grades, higher graduation rates, improved behavior, and much more.

Teammates Mentoring was started by legendary University of Nebraska coach Tom Osborne and his wife Nancy in 1991 as way to positively impact the community. The program started when 22 of Coach Osborne’s football players began meeting with Lincoln Public School System middle school students, of which 21 graduated High School on time and 18 went on to post-secondary education (1 left school early to pursue a successful Motocross career).

From these humble beginnings Teammates Mentoring has grown to serve over 10,000 youth and is in over 170 school districts across 5 states, and growing. Teammates is quickly becoming the go-to model for school-based mentoring.
