       Each child in my classroom will work toward achieving an individualized  reading goal each trimester. Students earn certificates and special awards, and prizes for  reaching their goal . Goals are set according to the STAR Test recommendations that students take through out the year to track their progress. Please watch for Accelerated Reader reports that are printed out automatically after your child takes a computer test on a book that he/she has read. We strive for good comprehension above 70%...preferably higher and to read within each child's Z.P.D. (zone of primal development) range. Your child will know how to select and choose books that are within their optimal range to grow and become better readers.

     After the first trimester, I really try to help children transition out of the easier picture books and move into chapter books. We start out with easy chapter books and keep moving forward. After Christmas, we will start having book clubs (Literature Circles) where many of the same students are reading the same AR book and meet weekly for group discussions and set page number goals!
