This page is designed to let the parents of my students get to know a little bit about who I am.

I have lived in the Black Hills now for five years and I love being apart of such a great area. This summer I was a fire fighter for the U.S. Forest Sevice.

What I believe about education.

Education today has come a long way even from eight years ago. Today there are many principles that are being used because they were successful. Taking a look at education and thinking about what education should be, I believe that education needs to be constructive and not punitive. For some students this can be life or death. The approach of education should be that of a positive attitude and an open classroom where students actually feel that they can be successful. Thus students will become more motivated and have higher self-determination to learn. Education should be focused on meeting the student’s needs as a learner rather than their performance. What teachers need to focus on is the overall understanding and comprehension of knowledge necessary for students to learn.
Education should also be interesting. Student’s tend to want to explore and learn as they go and education should use that to its advantage. Allowing the teacher to intervene and put interesting facts into lessons will help to capture the student’s interests and will help to strengthen comprehension and remember the important events in time. Teachers of today are forced to push knowledge into student’s to prepare them to be ready for the next stage in life rather than meeting the student’s needs. Education needs to be flexible with in a structure so students can pick a subject and research it individually or in a small group. This will give the students hands on experience in the subjects they are studying.
Education should be molded to fit the learner and the teacher needs to be able to work with the students, individually or whole group in a manner that is beneficial to them as learners.
